I like this approach as it reflects a real game and the pressure to choose between candidates. In many positions, John Nunn selects two or three obvious candidate moves and asks the reader to choose one. Most of the positions are from recent actual play and show typical positions that occur in practice and therefore show practical problems and mistakes even by very strong players. This excellent tome is titled as an exercise book, so the reader will gain most by attempting to solve the puzzles, but there is no compulsion to do this: the book can also be treated as a practical endgame manual. This is another superb endgame book by John Nunn.
